We’ve used a stringent series of tests to assess more than 2,200 installers across the UK, and these companies above fared the best of any that install in Cornwall.

They’re all certified by the MCS or Flexi-Orb, accredited by HIES or RECC, approved by TrustMark, registered with NAPIT or NICEIC, and have received excellent customer ratings on at least one reputable review site.

The best of the best are also Which? Trusted Traders and offer a solar subscription option, though Sunsave is the only top-rated company that fulfilled the latter requirement.

To see the top companies in the country, check out our national guide to the best solar panel installers.

1. Sunsave

At Sunsave, our mission is to make solar accessible to all UK households, which is why we offer the UK’s first solar subscription service.

2. ACD Electrical Green-Tech

Owner Andrew Charles Dunne launched this company after finishing his electrical apprenticeship with the navy, and named it after his own initials.

Since opening its doors in 2022, this Which? Trusted Trader and its distinctive neon lime branding have attracted rave reviews.

From its position on an industrial estate, next to bricklayers and a bicycle shop, the firm has become popular for its professional, polite, tidy approach.

Dunne said on LinkedIn: "At ACD we are very much a family business and also a local business with strong local ties in the Devon and Cornwall area.

"We pride ourselves on providing an excellent service at a very competitive rate, both to the domestic clients as well as the commercial ones and are constantly striving to ensure that we meet our clients expectations."

Andrew and his team did a fantastic job. They were very polite and incredibly tidy, and everything happened within the time frame we were told, even though the weather was very wet. We would recommend them in a heartbeat. Can’t speak highly enough of them.

3. Wired By Jessops

In the beautiful surroundings of St Agnes, married couple Joe and Tara Jessop run a firm that strives to bring a personal touch to solar installations.

The company's site says "Joe personally visits every customer to assess your property and discuss your energy needs", and this approach has clearly worked.

Customers have heaped praise on the business for being diligent, careful, and communicative, with one dubbing their installer a "gentleman" for his "faultless" work.

The family-run installer is also embedded in the community, supporting its local hospital by contributing children’s pyjamas and gifts at Christmas time.

Wired by Jessops were excellent when they installed our solar system and battery in October. Despite the rainy weather, the panels have been doing their stuff in what has been such a gloomy winter. We would recommend Joe Jessop and his team.

A 4.5kWp solar & battery system costs about £11,242 to buy and install in Cornwall.

This includes 10 solar panels with a 450-watt peak power rating, and a 5kWh battery.

We've also added the cost of getting a 5kWh battery, because this can hugely boost your returns.

A battery lets you to use more solar-generated electricity at home – known as self-consumption – which allows you to buy less electricity from the grid.

You can also sign up for the best export tariffs and time-of-use import tariffs, and join grid flexibility services like virtual power plants.

About 94% of new solar panel installations in the UK include a battery, according to data from Flexi-Orb and the EPVS.

Multiple factors could lead to you paying a different amount for a solar panel system, like its size, the installation’s complexity, and the installer you choose.

Are there any grants for solar panels in Cornwall?

Solar panel grants are available for many and varied households in Cornwall – and you can also access initiatives to help you drastically reduce the upfront cost.

If you’re not eligible for these programmes but still can’t afford the price of solar panels, take a look at Sunsave Plus, which is available at no upfront cost.

For fixed monthly payments over 20 years, you’ll receive the best-in-class kit, full monitoring and maintenance support, and a system that’ll save you money from day one.

To see which schemes you might qualify for, use our grant eligibility checker.

Warm Homes: Social Housing Fund

This government scheme gives funding to local councils that they can use to improve the energy efficiency of social homes in their area, including measures like solar panels and insulation.

In September 2024, the government renamed the Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund to Warm Homes: Social Housing Fund (WH:SHF).

Between its launch date in October 2020 and the end of 2025, the fund – in both its guises – has given out more than £1 billion.

In 2025, Cornwall Housing Ltd was part of a consortium that was awarded £66.7 million.

Solar panel installations make up about 10% of all WH:SHF installations across the country.

You can’t apply to the scheme yourself, but if Cornwall Housing is your landlord, you can get in touch to ask whether your home will be included in any measures.

Green Home Improvement Loan Scheme

Cornwall Council has partnered with not-for-profit lending company Lendology to offer low-interest loans for home improvements, including solar panels.

The council is using £668,254 of funding it received via the UK Shared Prosperity Fund to provide these loans, which can also be used to get heat pumps and insulation.

The loans are targeted at homeowners who are in fuel poverty, have long-term health conditions or disabilities, have kids under 16 years old, and

Park home owners and private landlords can also apply, but any properties used as second homes or holiday lets aren't eligible.

If you qualify, you can borrow up to £25,000, and pay that back over as many as 10 years.

The current Annual Percentage Rate (APR) is 4.2%, and the interest rate is fixed.

National grants

If you think you may be eligible for either of the following national grants, you should absolutely consider applying.

Solar panels are an excellent addition to your home. They can reduce your electricity bills by hundreds of pounds per year, slash your carbon footprint, and potentially increase your home’s value.

The Warm Homes: Local Grant

The government's Warm Homes: Local Grant (WH:LG), formerly the Home Upgrade Grant, funds measures which improve the energy efficiency and heating systems of energy-inefficient homes.

To be eligible, households have to be deprived, low-income, or receive a means-tested benefit.

If your home qualifies, you could get a largely discounted or free solar panel system, wherever you are in the county.

In the most recent funding wave, the government awarded just over £3.3 million to Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

To see if you could qualify, apply through the government’s site or contact your council.

Energy Company Obligation (ECO4)

If you live in a vulnerable or low-income home with residents who receive at least one qualifying benefit, you may be able to take advantage of the government’s main scheme for cutting domestic emissions.

You'll have to act quickly though, as the scheme will end on 31 December 2026.

ECO4 isn’t a grant, but is instead a way the government compels large energy companies to install energy-efficient measures in at-risk households, without the government or residents having to pay.

You can get a free solar panel system through the scheme, but only if your home is heated with electricity, like 10.9% of households in England , 11% in Scotland , and 7.5% in Wales.

For more information, check out our guide to ECO4.

How many homes in Cornwall have solar panels?

32,416 homes in Cornwall have installed solar panels that are certified by the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS), as of March 2026.

In total, 12.94% of households have bought a solar panel system in the county, one of the highest proportions in England.

That’s more than double the UK average of 5.7%, which is only logical, since Cornwall is one of the sunniest places in the country.

Is Cornwall sunny enough for solar panels?

Cornwall gets considerably more sunlight than most of the UK, with Truro receiving 1,298 kilowatt-hours per square metre (kWh/m²) on average per year – 19% above the national average.

This number will vary slightly across Cornwall, but it’s a great indicator.

Truro’s figure is based on the European Commission's Photovoltaic Geographical Information System, which provides regularly updated levels of solar irradiance.

In the solar panel industry, amounts of sunlight are tracked via ‘solar irradiance,’ which assesses the sun’s average intensity over a specific area.

It’s measured in kilowatt-hours per square metre – that is, how much energy makes it from the sun, across 93 million miles of space, to a given square metre on Earth.

As you might expect, the more intense the sunlight that hits your panels, the higher the kilowatt-hours per square metre, and the more solar electricity your installation will produce – leading to higher savings.

These output figures are all based on a domestic system in Truro.

We've used a 4.5kWp system because it'll usually produce enough electricity to at least match the average UK household's electricity consumption, which is 3,400kWh per year.

When your solar panels generate more electricity than you can use or store in your battery, you can sell this energy to the grid through one of the best SEG rates.

While this will happen with almost every UK system during summer, installations in Cornwall should be able to enjoy this additional income stream more often.

Please note: you won’t necessarily produce as much solar electricity with your system, as your home will probably be different from this property – but it should give you a good idea of what’s possible in Cornwall.

Is it worth getting solar panels in Cornwall?

It's absolutely worth getting solar panels in Cornwall, more so than it is in most places in the UK – as 12.94% of households in the area have found out.

If you’re put off by the upfront cost, you could consider applying for a national or local grant.

However, if you're not eligible for any of these, consider Sunsave Plus, our all-in-one solar and battery solution that’s tailored to your home, and delivered as a monthly subscription with no upfront cost.
