Information correct as of September 2026

These solar & battery installers made the list because they met the following six key criteria:

  • Certified by MCS or Flexi-Orb
  • Accredited by RECC or HIES
  • Approved by TrustMark
  • Registered with NAPIT or NICEIC
  • Rated 95% or higher by a minimum of 150 customers on at least one top review site
  • Offer a workmanship warranty of at least five years

We also took note of which installers provide solar & battery packages with maintenance services with no upfront cost, as this allows more households to go solar – and make meaningful money doing it.

Sunsave was the only top-rated company that fulfilled this particular requirement.

We explain our methodology in more depth at the end of the article.

Managing director and local boy David Turner cut his teeth working as a service engineer for Sheffield City Council and Glow-worm, before starting his own business in 2004.

His company has been a force in the world of plumbing since then, and has expanded into solar installations with similar success.

That's how it's managed to rack up more than 270 reviews as a Which? Trusted Trader – more than the vast majority of solar installers on the platform.

Turner has dropped "Gas" from his firm's original name – 1st Call Gas Services – and made renewable installations one of its three main prongs.

The company's explained: "While our name, logo, and structure have evolved, our commitment to customer care, reliability, and high standards remains unchanged."

Key points

  • 1st Call Services has been operating in Sheffield since 2004, making it the oldest company on our list
  • Its 10-year workmanship warranty is one of the best around
  • The installer fits JinkoSolar panels and EcoFlow inverters
  • You can also get an air source heat pump installed by 1st Call Services
  • The company provides one-off maintenance call-outs

The whole system was installed neatly and professionally, with the cabling carefully routed through the loft and garage. Overall, I am pleased with both the quality of the installation and the service I received from 1st Call.

Atlantic Renewables has been installing solar panels ever since the UK's first solar boom, in 2011.

As well as helping countless households, the company has also worked with councils, housing associations, and businesses in the North West.

This has led to some impressive commercial solar installations, such as the 120-panel job carried out in Ashton-under-Lyne, in August 2026.

Dean Flute incorporated the company when he was 25, and has run it for more than half his life.

Since 2019, he's received assistance from fellow director Jason Harrington, who carried out electrical work in a far-flung places like New Zealand, Sweden, and Ireland, before settling down in Greater Manchester.

The firm, which also fits in-roof solar panels, offers maintenance and repair services, plus the addition of a "Pigeon Defence System" – but no ongoing support.

Key points

  • Helps homes, councils, housing associations, and businesses in the North West go solar
  • Customers can pay for one-off maintenance and repair visits
  • The firm has been serving the region since 2011
  • The company uses LONGi and AIKO panels, and Sigenergy batteries and inverters
  • You can also get an EV charger installed

All staff (initial phone conversation, site survey, installation team, and email queries) were polite, friendly, professional and competent. If you want an excellent system from an excellent company, use Atlantic Renewables!

Getting more than 450 Google reviews is one thing, but maintaining a five-star rating at the same time is seriously impressive.

Owners Mark and Laura Thomson have made this achievement possible by placing enormous value on customer service.

In 2022, one of their first reviewers said they "couldn't be more professional or helpful."

In September 2026, a customer wrote: "Mark and his team were professional, friendly and efficient throughout".

Now that's consistency.

The Thomsons, who also offer a 10-year workmanship warranty with solar installs, would be even higher on this list if their firm were a Which? Trusted Trader.

Key points

  • The Thomsons have earned more reviews than any other installer on this list
  • The company also installs Andersen, Ohme, Myenergi, and Hypervolt EV chargers
  • It carries out solar installations all over Cumbria
  • The firm uses batteries from manufacturers like Fox ESS, Tesla, and Enphase
  • Thomson Electrical & Energy Solutions is not yet a Which? Trusted Trader

Huge thanks to Mark and the team for all their hard work. They’ve been helpful at every stage and always willing to explain things properly. The workmanship is solid, the setup runs perfectly and the whole experience has been stress‑free thanks to their support.

In the small West Midlands market town of Bilston, brothers Will and Jay Jenks have created one of the best installers in the country.

The town, perhaps best known for being the birthplace of Wolves and England goalkeeper Bert Williams, has embraced the firm since it was founded in 2023 – and they're not the only ones.

Actismart has received hundreds of positive reviews for its professional, efficient work, which regularly includes in-person quotes carried out with the help of a drone.

The Jenks brothers started the firm after their mum underwent a life-changing accident that left her using a wheelchair.

They explained: "We harnessed our skills as reliable electricians to create practical solutions for our mother in the form of smart home technology. Our mission became clear: to make smart technology accessible to all."

Key points

  • Actismart uses AIKO, JA Solar, LONGi, Fox ESS, and Hanchu ESS products
  • You can get a 10-year workmanship warranty
  • The installer covers Bridgnorth, Dudley, Halesowen, Stourbridge, and Wolverhampton
  • The family-run company uses a drone to assess roofs before giving quotes
  • All its batteries come with a 10-year product warranty

I had a great experience with Actismart when they came out to fit my new solar panels and Fox battery system in August. I really can't fault their service and would highly recommend Actismart to anyone thinking about going solar.

Wrexham has achieved international renown in recent years, thanks to actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney taking over the city's football team – but a similarly named pair has also been making waves.

Ryan Roberts and Robert McHugh created RR Electrical & Solar in 2023, and have experienced their own meteoric rise since.

The firm, which covers Wrexham and North West England, is aware of the connection, writing: "The budgets might be a little different, but our passion for supporting the local community is every bit as strong!"

The less famous Ryan and Rob even share a love for the beautiful game, and regularly sponsor local team Llay Miners Welfare FC.

They put their enduring success down to their consistent professionalism, saying: "We treat every project with the same care and high standards that have become our hallmark."

Key points

  • Reviewers regularly call the company friendly, knowledgeable, and innovative
  • The installer provides solar gear made by manufacturers like Tesla, SolaX, and Fox ESS
  • Its owners are rooted in the local community, and sponsor a local football team
  • The firm also installs EV chargers, including Rolec models
  • Offers annual maintenance packages

I can’t fault the service they provided. All the guys have been amazing and nothing has been too much trouble from start to finish. They’ve been on hand to help me with queries, helped me change providers and more.

Many solar installers started up during the Feed-in Tariff-fuelled solar boom of the early 2010s, but not many stuck around.

Infinity Energy Services has done even better, expanding beyond its Hampshire base to most of south England, while carrying out thousands of jobs.

Founder Daniel Hanslip has grown his team to 37 staff that are now able to serve everywhere from Somerset to West Sussex, and all the way up to Gloucestershire and Oxfordshire.

The firm may be larger, but it retains the personal touch. Every customer is promised a single point of contact for their project.

This approach seems to have worked wonders, with Hanslip's team winning Regional Solar PV Installer of the Year at the South East Energy Efficiency Awards in 2023, 2024, and 2026.

Key points

  • This team of 37 has carried out thousands of jobs
  • Director Daniel Hanslip has more than 20 years of electrical experience
  • The company also installs heat pumps, EV chargers, and air conditioning units
  • Provides cleaning and maintenance services

Helpful and friendly through the entire process. Always responded to phone or email communication quickly. Full installation adjusted for my requirements at a sensible price. I'd happily recommend Infinity if you're smart enough to get solar.

This company has come a long way. Its creator, Abdirashid Mahamed, said he "founded SMS after recognising the gap in quality aftercare for solar owners."

The firm now offers domestic, commercial, and agricultural solar installations, and has fitted more than 11,000 systems.

To make this possible, it's employed 22 engineers across multiple regions, and can offer its happy solar customers equipment made by the likes of AIKO, Tesla and EcoFlow.

Maintenance is not the priority anymore, to the extent that the company now says: "If your existing system is underperforming, the smartest fix is rarely patching ageing kit – it's a modern upgrade or battery retrofit".

Key points

  • Covers Midlands, north England, & north Wales
  • Customers can enjoy a five-year workmanship guarantee
  • Started as a maintenance company, but pivoted to installs
  • Has carried out more than 11,000 installations
  • Employs a team of 22 MCS-certified engineers

Just wanted to say a massive thanks for the brilliant job fitting the solar panels and batteries. No matter what obstacles came up, you sorted it all out without any fuss. The work is top-tier, and the place was left spotless.

In some ways, this solar company, led by married couple Andy and Isabella Pemberton, is a classic family-run firm.

Its founder launched the business in 2000, after starting as an electrical apprentice at 16, then working as a qualified electrician at homes, schools, and hospitals in Teesside, as well as power stations and offshore oil platforms.

But that was before his life changed. Andy formed the band Journey South with his brother Carl, finished third on X Factor, and released a number one album that's sold more than 400,000 copies.

He eventually returned home, reopened the business, and tuned it into a local powerhouse.

Ironically considering his band's name, Pemberton's firm only operates northwards of their base in the small Teesside town of Yarm.

Alps Electrical serves customers all over Yorkshire and north east England – but it mostly serves its local Teesside community.

Key points

  • Run by married couple Andy and Isabella Pemberton
  • They won Checkatrade's Sustainability Champion award in 2024
  • The firm runs a YouTube channel chronicling its jobs
  • One of three installers on this list based in Yorkshire
  • Provides annual servicing packages

From first contact, its been a pleasure to deal with Andy and Bella. The installation team were first class – hard working, so polite and courteous and neat and tidy – completing the work comfortably within two days. They were an absolute credit to the company.

As its name suggests, this Leeds-based company focuses on smart home tech, which it says should work "quietly in the background, making life more comfortable, energy-efficient, and effortless."

Naturally, solar & battery systems are part of this mission, because there's no better way to run your smart tech than with solar electricity you generate yourself.

The business is run by Ahmer Mohammad, who lives locally and got his degree from Bradford University, and Shehla Mohammad.

As well as solar installs, customers can also get smart lighting, heating, and security, plus heat pumps and EV chargers.

Key points

  • Yorkshire Automation has perfect ratings on Checkatrade and Google
  • It's run by Ahmer and Shehla Mohammad
  • Customers can also get smart lighting, heating, and security gear
  • They aim to make "everyday life more convenient, secure, and enjoyable"

Ahmer and his team have done a great job with my solar and battery install at a very reasonable price. The process was smooth, with Ahmer offering advice and ensuring I got to the right solution for my property. Work has been high quality. Highly recommend.

From a unit on Rochester Airport Industrial Estate, local boy Oliver Lloyd has turned South East Solar and Electrical into a success story.

Since he launched the firm in 2014, it's grown steadily, and now carries out 20 to 40 solar installations per month – though in June 2026, the firm completed a whopping 78.

Lloyd also runs a scaffolding company and indoor golf simulator, and in 2023, he appeared on Channel 5's documentary Solar Panels – Are They Really Worth It?.

The show concluded, as Lloyd clearly has, that solar panels make "so much sense for so many people."

Key points

  • The firm usually carries out 20-40 installations per month
  • Founder Oliver Lloyd also runs a scaffolding company and indoor golf simulator
  • He launched South East Solar and Electrical in 2014
  • Your installation will come with a five-year workmanship warranty
  • The company installs solar & battery systems all over south east England

The installation was prompt and the team went above and beyond, working through the heatwave to get it finished. A pleasure to deal with, all of them. Five stars.

As well as solar & battery systems, the company also installs heat pumps, air conditioning, underfloor heating, and EV chargers.

And you can see all of this gear at its Hampshire-based showroom, where experts are ready to answer all your questions.

Cinergi also takes its role in the local area seriously, making regular donations to the local Romsey Food Bank at Christmas.

Greg has grown the company from just himself to a team of 17 that can cover all of Scotland.

Greg – whose initials form the GSM of his business's name – told viewers on his firm’s YouTube channel: “Our customers consistently choose us because we've got over 200 five-star reviews across Google and Trustpilot.”

He added that he'd put together “an expert team who put the customer at the heart of what we do. We don't send a salesman to do our survey. In most cases, you'll get me.”

Greg, who grew up in the local area, has been an electrician ever since he left school around three decades ago. This experience and local know-how shines through in customer reviews, which repeatedly describe a knowledgeable, professional team.

Key points

  • Family-run firm with strong roots in Fife
  • Director Greg Michie has roughly three decades of electrical experience
  • It’s grown from just Greg to a team of 17

Google review (September 2026)

How to choose a solar panel installer

There are thousands of solar installers in the UK, so it's easy to feel overwhelmed by the sheer number of options available to you.

But if you look for a company that succeeds in a few key aspects, you should be able to make the right decision for your household.

1. Customer reviews

This is the most important category. You don't need to find a company with perfect ratings, but in a world where good installers encourage their customers to leave reviews, you should check that a firm's feedback is generally positive.

Trustpilot, Checkatrade, Which?, and Google Reviews are all reliable sources for these reviews.

2. MCS or Flexi-Orb certification

Your installer should be certified by the MCS or Flexi-Orb, so that your system comes with the same stamp of approval.

This not only helps to ensure that your installation is carried out to a high standard, but also allows you to benefit from export income.

All export tariff suppliers require domestic systems to come with an MCS or Flexi-Orb certification – and not having one means missing out on hundreds of pounds per year.

A top-tier installer will also be accredited by RECC or HIES, Trustmark-approved, registered with NAPIT or NICEIC, and a Which? Trusted Trader.

3. Maintenance support

Ensuring your solar & battery system keeps functioning properly is a crucial step towards maximising your solar savings.

And even if everything works smoothly, parts of your system will eventually need replacing. Some technical experts in the industry estimate that a solar & battery system will require three maintenance call-outs in the first 20 years.

That includes one for the panels, one for the battery, and one for the inverter.

Batteries tend to last 10-12 years before they need to be replaced, while 34% of inverters fail by year 15, according to a study by Bern University of Applied Sciences.

Having to sort out inspections, repairs, and replacement parts can be expensive and stressful – yet many installers still don't offer any sort of maintenance package.

Fortunately, every Solar & Battery Plus system is protected by the Solar & Battery Guarantee. This 20-year package provides you with 24/7 monitoring, maintenance, a free battery upgrade, a free inverter replacement if necessary, downtime cover, and insurance.

4. Longevity/endurance

It's best to look for installers that have proven themselves, both by sticking around for a few years, and by amassing a large number of glowing customer reviews.

Many good companies go bust before their time, but not many bad installers survive for long.

A firm that's a little older should also have more experience with what does and doesn't work in your area, especially if it offers a maintenance package and therefore regularly provides aftercare.

How did we choose the best solar panel installers?

We conducted a thorough, objective analysis of the thousands of solar & battery installers operating across the UK.

Before starting this process, we decided that for a company to be the best, it has to hold the accreditations and certifications with the highest bars for entry.

When you hire one of these installers, you should be able to rest easy, knowing you’ll be treated well – but of course, the proof is in the pudding.

So we scoured the most reputable review sites to find out which companies had the best ratings from a large enough number of customers.

We also assessed whether these installers offer solar & battery packages with no upfront cost, since aftercare is crucial and the initial price tag is stopping many households from going solar.

On a related note, we also required qualifying businesses to provide a minimum five-year workmanship warranty.

With all of this information, we were able to find the best installers.

Here are the factors we took into account:

  • Accreditations
  • Customer review score
  • Workmanship warranties
  • Solar & battery packages

Accreditations

We chose accreditations created by the following organisations as the most important hurdles for solar panel installers to clear, due to their integrity, independence, and expertise:

  • Flexi-Orb, whose renewable installation scheme has set a new, higher industry standard. It's the first to be accredited by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS).
  • MCS, which has created a standard for low-carbon products, installers, and installations. To qualify, installers must know the standards, prove they can consistently meet them, and demonstrate a commitment to customer care.
  • RECC, a customer protection body for renewable energy installations that regularly vets its members.
  • HIES, another body that provides a consumer code for installers to follow, and helps ensure fair outcomes if anything goes wrong.
  • TrustMark, the only government-endorsed quality scheme in the UK for works in and around your home. To become a member of this non-profit entity, installers must prove their work and customer service is top-notch.
  • NAPIT, a government-approved accreditation body for home services. For installers to join this organisation, they must have certain qualifications and demonstrate that they can perform their job safely and competently.
  • NICEIC, a leading certification body for the electrical contracting industry in the UK. To gain a certificate from this organisation, installers must complete a course that proves they can carry out relevant installations.

Customer review score

We decided that only installers with an average score of 95% or higher from their own customers would qualify for our list.

Since small samples aren’t indicative, we set the minimum number of ratings at 150.

And with far too many dubious review sites trying to convince consumers they know best, we limited our scope to organisations we can rely on: Trustpilot, Which?, Checkatrade, and Google.

As these sites use a mixture of rating systems – either ranking installers out of five or 10 – we’ve standardised scores by turning them into percentages, so they’re easy to understand.

Workmanship warranties

This is a crucial requirement, as it ensures peace of mind for solar homes.

MCS requires its certified installers to provide a two-year workmanship warranty, but this is just the bare minimum.

We looked for installers that go beyond what they have to do, and focus instead on providing the best service possible.

Even if the flaws in your installations aren't immediately obvious, this length of warranty should ensure you're still covered when they come to light.

Solar & battery packages

The best installers offer solar & battery packages with no upfront cost, that allow you to spread your payments across up to 20 years.

They should also ideally include 24/7 monitoring, maintenance support, downtime cover, and a free battery upgrade.

For these reasons, solar & battery packages are the main way in which the industry can save households meaningful money by putting power in their hands.
