Information correct as of April 2026.

These installers made the list because they met the following five key criteria:

  • Certified by MCS or Flexi-Orb
  • Accredited by RECC or HIES
  • Approved by TrustMark
  • Registered with NAPIT or NICEIC
  • Rated 85% or higher by customers on at least one top review site

We also took note of installers' workmanship warranties, as well as which ones provide solar subscriptions, because they're a vital way of making solar more accessible for people who can’t afford the upfront cost.

Sunsave was the only top-rated company that fulfilled that particular requirement.

We’ll explain our methodology in more depth at the end of the article.

Married couple Leon and Caroline Rygol founded this firm in 2014, and have received rave reviews in the years since.

The Bristol-based installer has earned countless five-star ratings on Google, and has backed this up by becoming a Which? Trusted Trader.

Mr Rygol has also amassed more than 25,000 subscribers on YouTube, with videos about electrical issues and solar installations.

This has helped the company gain a bit of fame in the local community, but its owners – who install EV chargers alongside DMEGC solar panels and Sigenergy batteries – are still focused on the fundamentals.

On their website, they say staff "are trained to be clean and tidy", before promising "minimal disruption during every project."

And elsewhere on social media, they state: "It’s not just about getting it working; it’s about doing it right."

Key points

  • Rygol has carried out solar installations in Bristol since 2014
  • Their six-year workmanship warranty is one of the best around
  • The company installs DMEGC solar panels and Sigenergy batteries
  • You can also get an EV charger installed by Rygol
  • The company provides one-off maintenance call-outs

The team were friendly, professional and efficient. The installation went smoothly with minimal disruption and we are more than happy with the system they have installed – and already saving money on our energy bills!

Adept Renewables provides a comprehensive solar service to households all over Dorset, Wiltshire and Hampshire.

As well as handling the design and installation of JinkoSolar panels and Greenlinx batteries, this small business also provides aftercare, in the form of a £24.99-per-month maintenance package.

For this fee, you’ll get an annual clean and electrical inspection, as well as the installation of replacement equipment, as long as it’s under the manufacturer’s warranty.

You can still find the company’s owner, Steven Hook, out on jobs every day, providing the kind of excellent service that’s led dozens of customers on Checkatrade to personally recommend him as friendly, professional, and reliable.

Mr Hook told Sunsave that his company’s success was down to its “unwavering commitment to customer satisfaction and our expertise in crafting tailor-made solutions.

“We consistently exceed expectations by engaging closely with clients to understand their unique energy needs and environmental contexts.”

Key points

  • Adept provides a £24.99 per month maintenance package
  • Customers can get an annual clean and electrical inspection
  • You can also get replacements installed for free, if it’s under the manufacturer’s warranty
  • The company uses JinkoSolar panels and Greenlinx batteries
  • Owner Steven Hook put his firm's success down to an “unwavering commitment to customer satisfaction"

We were impressed with Adept Renewables for our solar panel installation. They demonstrated professionalism, efficiency, and clear communication at every stage of the process.

Andy Wood founded this business in 2018 with four employees, and has since expanded his team to 16.

The company's reputation has also grown, with ratings and reviews that reflect his staff's hard work, even if it hasn't yet become a Which? Trusted Trader.

The firm also takes its role in the local area seriously. On its website, it says that "we are passionate about serving the community", and that's not just lip service.

Mr Wood got his start as an 18-year-old apprentice more than two decades ago, and has since given the same opportunity to other local teens – with some help from Warwickshire County Council.

In 2024, he received £6,000 from the local authority to take on three apprentices. At the time, he said: "We work a lot in schools and with businesses and homeowners, so the stronger we are the better we can help the community.

"We take two or three work placements a year from each school and a couple of those have gone on to start apprenticeships with us."

Key points

  • The team has grown fourfold since 2018
  • The company takes on apprentices from the local community
  • It installs all over Warwickshire and the surrounding areas
  • The firm provides one-off maintenance call-outs
  • Hertz is not yet a Which? Trusted Trader

Really happy with the service from Hertz Electrical Contractors. They turned up on time, worked really carefully, and explained everything clearly. Super friendly team and got the job done quickly. Would definitely recommend!

Tile Energy has served customers for well over a decade and still has a fantastic score on Checkatrade and Which?, which is no mean feat.

The company installs Tesla and SolarEdge batteries with a 10-year guarantee, and provides a 12-year guarantee on its SolarEdge inverters.

You’ll also receive a workmanship warranty of up to 20 years, which makes it one of the best on the market.

Leke Alabi, who runs the business, said in 2021: "We're not going to give people a service for the sake of giving them a service. We are providing a solution."

He added: "We are a down-to-earth company and we provide bespoke advice and design".

Tile Energy recently doubled its workforce from four to eight, and expanded its fleet as well – both signs of a successful, growing business.

Key points

  • Tile Energy uses Tesla and SolarEdge products
  • You can get a 10-year guarantee on batteries, and a 12-year cover on your inverter
  • Households can get a 20-year workmanship warranty
  • The company has increased its workforce and fleet size in recent times
  • Provides maintenance packages

First class experience from a first class company. We are usually reluctant to post recommendations just in case someone doesn’t have the same experience as us, however these guys were so good (100% excellent), it’s only fair to leave a good review.

Customers have almost exclusively given this small, Bromley-based business perfect ratings on Trustpilot, with the installer's professional, knowledgeable, helpful approach shining through.

This holds true on Which?, where reviewers have all awarded the company five stars in every category.

Currently, the company offers Canadian Solar and JA Solar panels, as well as batteries from Tesla, SolarEdge, and Sunsynk.

The business’s site also includes a savings calculator, which is useful but needs a bit more development.

Key points

  • The Solar Co. has perfect ratings on Which?
  • The installer provides solar panels made by Canadian Solar and JA Solar
  • Customers can pair these panels with batteries from Tesla, SolarEdge, and Sunsynk
  • The firm also installs Tesla, Myenergi, and Ohme EV chargers
  • Provides aftercare services, including system maintenance

The Solar Co came up with the most appealing quote, seemed very professional, carried out the work to a high standard and when there were some issues 9 months later they came out and fixed them for free. I'm very happy with the outcome.

In 2022, in the face of rising customer demand for their solar services, Paul and Chris Warnham launched this family-run business as an offshoot of construction company SW3 Services.

The company has gone from strength to strength ever since, attracting full marks from hundreds of customers across review sites including Checkatrade, Which? Trusted Traders, and Google – and we can see why.

Chris has around two decades of electrical experience, and together with Paul, they provide "a holistic approach to sustainable energy", according to their company's site.

"We assess your property’s unique needs, expertly install solar solutions, and provide ongoing maintenance."

SW3 Green Energy Services covers most of southern England, and also installs heat pumps.

Key points

  • The family-run business launched as an offshoot of a construction company
  • Director Chris Warnham has around two decades of electrical experience
  • The company also installs heat pumps
  • Provides one-off maintenance call-outs

Since 2011, this small business run by husband-and-wife team James and Samantha Kirby has served its southern area in a professional, dedicated manner.

As a result, it’s earned hundreds of perfect reviews on Checkatrade – and the company cements its customer-friendly status by offering a five-year workmanship guarantee, which is about double the industry standard.

Talking on the Brilliant Businesses podcast in 2023, Mr Kirby said his company’s motto – ‘we do things differently’ – refers to the way it treats the public.

“It's customer service and how we try to look after people. Around this area, there don't seem to be too many companies that worry about that too much,” he explained.

“20-30% of our diary's filled up with small jobs, because a lot of other electrical companies locally just don't want to know. They just put the phone down.”

However, like every firm on this list apart from Sunsave, it doesn't offer a solar subscription.

Key points

  • This is the oldest company on our list
  • Customers can enjoy a five-year workmanship guarantee
  • The company provides one-off maintenance call-outs
  • The business's motto – ‘we do things differently’ – relates to its customer service
  • Mr Kirby said: "20-30% of our diary's filled up with small jobs, because a lot of other electrical companies locally just don't want to know"

Outstanding professional service throughout from initial enquiry to completion of work. Throughout the process the administration regularly confirmed when the work would be undertaken.

Spectra Solar, which is based in Wigan, serves customers from Birmingham up to Harrogate. This includes Skegness and Hull in the east, and Wrexham all the way up to Blackpool in the west.

The company has a near-perfect set of Google reviews, which it explains by stating on its site that “at Spectra Solar we’re a family-run business with a customer-first approach.

“We are all about being open and honest,” the business says, before adding: “We don’t employ ANY sales reps. No hard sales.”

If your inverter is malfunctioning, the company’s website contains a free online tool that asks you questions with the aim of helping you to repair the device for free.

This is a lovely touch that speaks to how highly Spectra prizes customer service. The firm also offers financing through a credit broker – but no solar subscription.

Key points

  • Spectra Solar is proud of being "a family-run business with a customer-first approach"
  • The company provides an online tool to help you repair your inverter for free
  • The firm offers financing through a credit broker – but no solar subscription
  • One of just five installers on this list to cover the Midlands
  • Provides one-off maintenance call-outs

This Cheshire company expanded in 2023 to serve many regions of the UK, including Scotland, north Wales, and east England – but only its original branch is a Which? Trusted Trader.

You can see why the business went national, as its north west division has been recommended by 100% of its customers on Which?, with perfect ratings for customer service and quality.

The family-run firm, which is led by David, Elaine, and Charles Lukeman, provides households with Qcells solar panels and batteries.

Speaking to Plumbing, Heating and Air Movement News in 2023, David Lukeman said: “Having built my own business over a decade, I take great pride in our reputation for reliability and service.

“We are profitable and have been fortunate to attract nothing but great reviews in 10 years. That level of success indicates our level of commitment.”

Key points

  • It's a family-run business, led by David, Elaine, and Charles Lukeman
  • Customers can get Qcells solar panels and batteries
  • David Lukeman said the company's "level of success indicates our level of commitment"

Heatable is an established, trusted name in boiler installations, and the company has expanded into solar with success.

Its founders, brothers Sam and Ben Price, have built a reliable, nationwide service that supplies customers with REA panels, Enphase microinverters, and Alpha ESS batteries – and Ben often helps out with installations.

Customers can use a free online tool to give them an idea of what they’ll pay without having to hand over any personal details or committing to anything.

All they need to do is provide their annual electricity consumption and outline which roof space they’d like to use – but bear in mind that scaffolding costs aren’t included in the quote.

You should also consider that Heatable’s main focus isn’t on solar – the great majority of its Trustpilot reviews are about boiler jobs – and it offers an underwhelming two-year installation warranty.

And though it offers solar panel loans, it doesn’t provide a subscription service.

Key points

  • Heatable is a trusted name in boiler installations that's expanded into solar
  • Brothers Sam and Ben Price have built a nationwide company
  • The firm offers REA panels, Enphase microinverters, and Alpha ESS batteries
  • Your installation will come with a five-year workmanship warranty
  • The company provides one-off maintenance call-outs

Had a solar and battery installed by Heatable, the service so far has been excellent. From quotation to final install there's been no hassle and everyone who I've met have been very professional. Would recommend Heatable and the team they work with.

HSEnergy Group, formerly known as Home Smart Energy, has designed and installed more than 10,000 solar installations – and well over half of these have happened since 2021.

Since 2015, the business – run by Neil and Vivienne Mitchell – has taken on more than 25 employees, and now installs solar panels made by Phono Solar, DMEGC Solar, and JA Solar, and batteries made by Pylontech or Fox ESS.

In a January 2024 edition of the Burgess Hill Business Parks Association newsletter, Mr Mitchell wrote: “HSEnergy Group has proved that a personalised solar package can offer outstanding protection against energy inflation, while reducing household bills.” "

Though it operates all over the country, the company also has strong roots in its West Sussex community.

Mr Mitchell said his business had a focus on “community engagement and development” in the same newsletter article, and the firm has proven itself by partnering with group-buying scheme Solar Together, which makes it easier for households to go solar.

Key points

  • The firm has designed and installed more than 10,000 solar installations
  • It's run by Neil and Vivienne Mitchell, with the help of more than 25 employees
  • You can get solar panels made by Phono Solar, DMEGC Solar, or JA Solar
  • Mr Mitchell has said HSEnergy prizes “community engagement and development”
  • Offers "round-the-clock monitoring and proactive maintenance"

The whole process of deciding our solar needs, systems and installation was faultless and much less stress than anticipated. All aspects well coordinated to ensure a very smooth, efficient process.

Trustpilot review (March 2026)

How to choose a solar panel installer

There are thousands of solar installers in the UK, so it's easy to feel overwhelmed by the sheer number of options available to you.

But if you look for a company that succeeds in a few key aspects, you should be able to make the right decision for your household.

1. Customer reviews

This is the most important category. You don't need to find a company with perfect ratings, but in a world where good installers encourage their customers to leave reviews, you should check that a firm's feedback is generally positive.

Trustpilot, Checkatrade, Which?, and Google Reviews are all reliable sources for these reviews.

2. MCS or Flexi-Orb certification

Your installer should be certified by the MCS or Flexi-Orb, so that your system comes with the same stamp of approval.

This not only helps to ensure that your installation is carried out to a high standard, but also allows you to benefit from export income.

All export tariff suppliers require domestic systems to come with an MCS or Flexi-Orb certification – and not having one means missing out on hundreds of pounds per year.

A top-tier installer will also be accredited by RECC or HIES, Trustmark-approved, registered with NAPIT or NICEIC, and a Which? Trusted Trader.

3. Maintenance support

Ensuring your solar & battery system keeps functioning properly is a crucial step towards maximising your solar savings.

And even if everything works smoothly, parts of your system will eventually need replacing. Some technical experts in the industry estimate that a solar & battery system will require three maintenance call-outs in the first 20 years.

That includes one for the panels, one for the battery, and one for the inverter.

Batteries tend to last 10-12 years before they need to be replaced, while 34% of inverters fail by year 15, according to a study by Bern University of Applied Sciences.

Having to sort out inspections, repairs, and replacement parts can be expensive and stressful – yet many installers still don't offer any sort of maintenance package.

Fortunately, every Sunsave Plus system is protected by the Sunsave Guarantee. This 20-year package provides you with 24/7 monitoring, maintenance, a free battery upgrade, a free inverter replacement if necessary, downtime cover, and insurance.

4. Longevity/endurance

It's best to look for installers that have proven themselves, both by sticking around for a few years, and by amassing a large number of glowing customer reviews.

Many good companies go bust before their time, but not many bad installers survive for long.

A firm that's a little older should also have more experience with what does and doesn't work in your area, especially if it offers a maintenance package and therefore regularly provides aftercare.

How did we choose the best solar panel installers?

We conducted a thorough, objective analysis of the thousands of solar panel installers operating across the UK.

Before starting this process, we decided that for a company to be the best, it has to hold the accreditations and certifications with the highest bars for entry.

When you hire one of these installers, you should be able to rest easy, knowing you’ll be treated well – but of course, the proof is in the pudding.

So we scoured the most reputable review sites to find out which companies had the best ratings from a large enough number of customers.

We also assessed whether these installers offer subscription services, since aftercare is crucial and upfront costs are stopping many households from going solar.

By cross-referencing all of this information, we were able to find the best installers.

Here are the factors we took into account:

  • Accreditations
  • Customer review score
  • Solar subscription

Accreditations

We chose accreditations created by the following organisations as the most important hurdles for solar panel installers to clear, due to their integrity, independence, and expertise:

  • Flexi-Orb, whose renewable installation scheme has set a new, higher industry standard. It's the first to be accredited by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS).
  • MCS, which has created a standard for low-carbon products, installers, and installations. To qualify, installers must know the standards, prove they can consistently meet them, and demonstrate a commitment to customer care.
  • RECC, a customer protection body for renewable energy installations that regularly vets its members.
  • TrustMark, the only government-endorsed quality scheme in the UK for works in and around your home. To become a member of this non-profit entity, installers must prove their work and customer service is top-notch.
  • NAPIT, a government-approved accreditation body for home services. For installers to join this organisation, they must have certain qualifications and demonstrate that they can perform their job safely and competently.
  • NICEIC, a leading certification body for the electrical contracting industry in the UK. To gain a certificate from this organisation, installers must complete a course that proves they can carry out relevant installations.

Customer review score

We decided that only installers with an average score of 85% or higher from their own customers would qualify for our list.

Since small samples aren’t indicative, we set the minimum number of ratings at 100.

And with far too many dubious review sites trying to convince consumers they know best, we limited our scope to organisations we can rely on: Trustpilot, Which?, Checkatrade, and Google.

As these sites use a mixture of rating systems – either ranking installers out of five or 10 – we’ve standardised scores by turning them into percentages, so they’re easy to understand.

Solar subscription

Solar subscriptions offer so much more than a simple solar panel loan.

In their best form, they also include 24/7 monitoring, maintenance support, downtime cover, and a free battery upgrade. They're also long-term, meaning the total cost can be spread out over many years.

For these reasons, solar subscriptions are the main way in which the industry can offer the benefits of solar panels to as many households as possible.

It was therefore important that we noted which of the best installers offer this invaluable service, which removes the main barrier to going solar: the upfront cost.

About half of UK households have less than £5,000 in savings, according to the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) . Without a solar subscription, they have no route to the lower electricity bills that a system can provide.

We also don’t consider solar products that require a roof lease to be a solar subscription, as they come with a long list of disadvantages.

Next steps

We’ve found the 13 best solar panel installers in the UK, so you don’t have to.

The next step is to contact the installers that cover your area, and ask them for a free survey and quote.

However, there’s only one top installer that provides a solar subscription service which means you can get solar panels and a generous aftercare and support package at no upfront cost.
